I've never really understood A type, tiger personalities who say it how it is, but I really admire Julie B. Beck who is the President of the Relief Soceity, an organization for women in the LDS church. She is one tough lady. Check out the latest article from her, Teaching the Doctrine of the Family in the March Ensign. I can just imagine what kind of hate mail she must get.
I wonder what goes through the minds of Al Gore's Peace Prize supporters in S.F. when they walk outside this morning.

Mike is currenty getting an MBA along with a Master's in Global Affairs. While he was out in Indiana attending lectures, one of the professors played this youtube during a break. It makes me feel a part of something so much greater than myself. Love it!

Not to be Forgotten

I asked Jonathan how many kids he wants when he grows up and he think's 10 boys would be good. I assured him that Mike and I would enjoy having grandchildren and come around a lot to help him and his wife out as 10 boys would be quite demanding. I asked him what he'd do if one of them got grumpy and he thought about it for a while. Then he said, "I know, but I don't want to tell you." Mike asked, "Is it because it's bad?" He replied, "no". I asked, "Is it because you don't want to give us any ideas?" He replied, "yes". Smart kid.

He and James had been arguing so we had them go in different rooms. After a couple of minutes, Jonathan said, "I better go see what James is up to." Ha-ha.

I went to my friend Anna's place. She was showing me and a few other girls how to sew a really cute baby blanket. James must have been uncomfortable there because he had an accident. I took his underwear and shorts off and let him run around in his shirt, since it covered his bum. Anyway, as we were leaving another girl there commented on his strong legs. I figured as long as he was getting attention I'd reinforce his potty-going and I said, "Yes, they are super strong. Tell them where you do your pee pees and pooh, poohs? James replied by lifting his shirt up to show them where. So much for modesty.

Five Years Old

Jonathan is a very helpful big brother and son. The other day he cleaned the livingroom just to surprise me, pretty neat if you ask me. He enjoyed waffles and strawberries for breakfast and we had bowtie noodles and cooked carrots for dinner. That's what he wanted. He and James helped with the cake (It is a rocketship in case you can't tell) and cookies. He enjoyed presents and a few sweet birthday cards. He's an amazing reader and super smart in general, if I say so myself. He had a fun time bowling with Daddy and loved the one-on-one attention. He also enjoyed talking on the phone with grandparents and excused the noise in the background, "That was my baby brother yelling." He's a very funny, clever kid and a lot of fun. We love him lots!

Dentist

I had a dental exam yesterday evening. I handed Gracie off to Mike when he walked in the door and he did a great job of being Mr. Mom for the evening. The man does it all.

A few years ago Mike and I learned how to floss the right way which neither of us had been doing for the twentyfour years of our lives prior . Our dentist mentioned that it wouldn't hurt to floss twice daily. That along with using ACT mouthwash and the discounted Sonicare toothbrushes we got at Christmas have given me confidence in my teeth. My only complaint for the dentist was two days of bad breath (according to Mike) the previous week. You'd think the dentist would be happy with that. However, he must have taken the bad breath complaint seriously because I don't think anyone has ever attacked my teeth and gums with such vigor. Halfway through the cleaning he asked me if everything was going ok and I mentioned that the back of the front bottom teeth were a little sensitive. I kid you not, he went directly at that spot for the next three minutes with a very sharp object. Who is this guy anyway?

At the close of the session, I hear my phone with Mike’s ring tone, a message, followed by his ring tone and a message again. After the exam, I hear the messages from the Jonathan (with James in the background) talking about how he feels James isn’t being nice. The first funny thing about this is that Jonathan actually knows how to use Mike’s phone, find my number and call without Mike knowing. The second interesting thing is that they don’t go to their dad to resolve their issues when I’m not home.

Hi Bob

Six Months

Gracie had her six month check-up yesterday. As suspected, she is tiny. I just can’t get used to seeing little 40th%tile and 30th%tiles. I’m assuming she’ll catch up but what if she doesn’t? I know, the horror. ;)

Jonathan came into our room the other night saying his ankle hurt and it brought back a memory of going into my parent’s room one night and telling them how terribly my legs were aching from growing pains. I must have been around 11 years old at the time and already close to my height now. It’s tough on a kid. A part of me likes the idea that Gracie may be able to avoid some of my issues.

I was talking with Rachel on the phone and she asked what family pictures are like with Mike’s side of the family. We both had a little laugh at how I’m so obviously out of place, looking awful slouching in odd positions trying to fit in. She suggested I stand up really straight and act like a Greek goddess towering above mere mortals. I’ll have to give that one a try next time.

Back to Gracie. She's a sweetheart. She's really into books, eating them that is. She is an expert army crawler and learning to sit up without help. Her favorite things are getting kisses, pat-a-cake and seeing Daddy come home.

The Spies

Yesterday morning Mike and I were lying in bed trying not to wake up when the boys came into our room.

Jonathan in a loud whisper: “James, let’s spy on them. Do you know what spying is? It’s when you watch someone and they don’t know you are there.”

James replying in a loud whisper: “Oh. Go get car blankie.” He runs to get his blanket and is back in a second.

They continued to “spy” on us with loud whispers until we decided we could use a few cuddles. They were happy to oblige.

Last Sunday, the boys were sitting on the couch before church and Jonathan was looking through his gospel journal. He started singing Scripture Power to James. It was especially cute. After the song I overheard their llittle converstaion.
Jonathan: “James, do you like Scripture Power”
James: “Yes.”
Jonathan: “More than Wheels on the Bus?”
James: “Yes”
Jonathan: “You like it more than Wheels on the Bus? Wow.”

James made up a song while we were driving in the car. It went like this, "Jesus help Mommy, Jesus help Daddy, Jesus help Joshin, Jesus help Gricie, Jesus help Yames." Such a cutie

The other day Jonathan wouldn't leave the park. I couldn't figure out why he wasn't coming until he said, "Mom, Gracie." and I noticed he was pointing at a baby girl in a swing being pushed by her parents. I pointed out that I had Gracie with me. When he realized his mistake he seemed relieved. It was sweet that he wasn't about to let me leave her at the park.
