The other day while sitting at the table with the three oldest kids, James used a slang word that is commonly used at school but unacceptable in our house. We gasped in mock horror although we really were somewhat shocked that he would use such language. He sheepishly laughed it off but got the message it wasn’t appropriate. Then I asked what everyone wanted for Christmas. Jonathan replied, “Cold, hard cash”. Grace replied almost in tears, “For James to stop using bad words.” Then James replied, “I just want peace on earth.”
