Jonathan and James played basketball with some boys in our
ward this morning. It was cute watching
James play with the bigger boys. He was
the self-designated scorekeeper calling out the score throughout the game. For Christmas we gave him a soccer jersey of
a famous soccer guy with the last name of James for him to sport on his
back. It was fun to watch them play
basketball for fun since I’ve played so much of it. We had a family game last week, which was a
lot of fun too.
Jonathan came home two days ago and told me he noticed that
a boy in his class is starting to grow a mustache. That was slightly hard to believe since he’s
only in 4th grade. However,
yesterday, after taking a shower, Jonathan came out of the bathroom in a towel,
overjoyed to announce that he too is growing a mustache. He was so happy about it that everyone in the
family tried to take a close look to see if this was actually the case. I didn’t have the heart to tell him that I
have more of a mustache than him. Later
I heard him tell James “It may not be much but it’s a mustache none-the-less.” While rubbing his chin like he was seriously
thinking about something, he stated that he’d “really like to grow a
beard”. James and Ryan agreed
whole-heartedly that when they are older they would definitely grow
beards. Gracie says she is very grateful
she’s a girl so she won’t need to worry about that and I agreed. She is quite distraught that the boys all get
to sleep in the same room and she has to sleep all alone and reminds us often
of how lonely it is for her. I tell her
that she has her doll she sleeps with but she says that doesn’t count because
she’s “not human.”
The kids all got their report cards yesterday. Apparently Gracie is rather a sweetheart at
school and doing wonderfully well except one thing. She is a good little reader, colors in the
lines and can identify a trapezoid and hexagon but was not able to identify a
rectangle. Before you wonder what kind
of terrible parents she has, we’ve since taught her and she’s been
identifying all the rectangles in the house.
She is also learning how to skateboard and has been showing off for us
all afternoon. Gracie has been singing
Let There be Peace on Earth for a while now since she learned it at school. She especially likes singing the part, “Let
me walk with my brothers in perfect harmony.”
The kids were watching How to Train Your Dragon 2 the other day and
Gracie just couldn’t help but get up to dance to the music. She asks serious questions about making
babies and what happens to our bodies when we die.
Ryan’s in that won’t-nap-but-needs-one stage where he likes
to fall asleep after getting in trouble at 5:00 PM stage. I have to wake him up so he won’t be up all
night by making him get the mail with me or giving him a bath. The other morning he was riding
on Gracie. She was the pretend
horse. I told him he is too big for that
now since he is practically her size.
Jonathan and James like to refer to Lake Elsinore as Elsa
snores and get quite the kick out of it.
